Humans

Humans are an odd classification, containing both the Old Blood (the original Humans) and the Tog (the result of a magical disaster). The defining characteristic that binds both races is their sense of tight-knit community. There is no greater curse to a Human than being disinherited by his or her family. Humans hold storytelling and the chronicling of history (via writing or oral tradition) in high regard.
All Humans are tall and stocky. The men have broad shoulders, and the women are curvy and well-rounded. Humans live approximately 70-90 years. Togs have a greenish cast to their skin, and are generally bulkier and a little taller than Old Bloods. |

Ilvari

The Ilvari we know are exiles -- thrown out of the magical realm of Fae by the High Court for meddling with the forbidden mysteries of Nature. The crossing over from the Demesne of Magic irrevocably changed the Ilvari. Previously immortal and immensely powerful, they now fall under the laws and rules of Elanthia, living a mere 200 years and struggling to master the Magic that used to come as easily to them as breathing.
While initially they sought to return to the eternal land of their birth, over the years certain Ilvari came to accept their new surroundings, and ceased to see themselves as exiles. In an effort to get a better sense of Elanthia, these Ilvari turned to Nature, a previously taboo subject. This ultimately brought around an ideological schism that split the race into two distinct camps.

Stoneborn

The Stoneborn are actually two distinct races, the stoic Burian (original Elanthians) and the hyperactive Qwi (Faefolk exiles). Qwi-Burian unions are not unheard of, however the children resulting from such are always one or the other (Qwi or Burian). There are no Stoneborn halfbreeds. In regards to the odd couple that is the Qwi-Burian social and political structure, it is probably best summed up by the Qwi scholar Iznik Batchshift: "The Qwi design, the Burian build." It is a highly potent and successful formula that has yielded many advances in Gear technology over the years.

Suwari

The suwari of Elanthia are of the small and agile variety ... they're quick on their toes. They would bring to mind a rogue far more than a muscular warrior. They are a feline race.
The Suwari are a relatively new race in Elanthia. Once the pampered "pets" of the Mistfolk Ilvari, the Suwari won their freedom through a combination of subversion and trickery. It is unclear how far back the Suwari's machinations to rid themselves of their oppressors began. The only thing that is certain is that they were ultimately successful.
The two types of Suwari are divided on social and cultural grounds; much like the Ilvari, they are not separate species per se, but separate ideologies. The Suwari have never had their own homeland or city, as they were created by the Arcanum and, until the Sundering, were regarded as little more than highly trained pets and bodyguards. |
