The Stoneborn are actually two distinct races, the stoic Burian (original Elanthians) and the hyperactive Qwi (Faefolk exiles). Qwi-Burian unions are not unheard of, however the children resulting from such are always one or the other (Qwi or Burian). There are no Stoneborn halfbreeds. In regards to the odd couple that is the Qwi-Burian social and political structure, it is probably best summed up by the Qwi scholar Iznik Batchshift: "The Qwi design, the Burian build." It is a highly potent and successful formula that has yielded many advances in Gear technology over the years.
Stoneborn race encompasses your traditional gnome and dwarf. |

Qwi Stoneborn
The Qwi came to Elanthia from the Realm of Fae at the same time as the Ilvari and the Ugrek. The Fae Courts found the Qwi and their contraptions obnoxious and dangerous. And so, even though they had no involvement in the great Nature scandal, the Qwi were shuffled off with the rest of the exiles. In Elanthia, they developed their fantastical inventions even further -- a process that accelerated significantly after hooking up with the Burian.

The stoic Burians, who stand out as miners, metalworkers and brewers, are the first inhabitants of Elanthia..
The Burian, like the Old Blood Humans, had developed a strong sense of hierarchy by the time the Faefolk exiles appeared. The way the Burian saw it, there was a king, and if you didn't like it, well, you could just start your own kingdom, couldn't you? Renown for mining and developing strong alloys and even stronger beer, the Burian prize functionality and practicality more than fancy
embellishments and high falootin' ideas. That they leave to the Qwi. |
